Portsmouth City Schools seeking applicants for Board Member

The Portsmouth City Schools Board of Education seeks applicants to fill the unexpired term of board member Rebecca Kalb, who resigned August 4, 2026.

The board will begin interviewing candidates immediately and must name a replacement within 30 days of the resignation. The newly appointed member will serve until December 31, 2027. If the appointed member desires to continue serving, he or she must run in the next general election.

Rebecca Kalb was elected to the Portsmouth City Schools Board of Education and began her term on January 1, 2024. Mrs. Kalb has submitted her resignation from the Board of Education due to a change in family circumstances. Her resignation became effective on August 4, 2026.

According to Ohio law, people serving on Ohio school boards must be at least 18 years old, district residents and registered voters.

Mr. J. Walker said the board will review all applications and decide on the replacement at its August 27th meeting.

Applications will be accepted through August 14, 2026. The Board will hold interviews during a Special Board Meeting on August 18th, 19th, or both.

Portsmouth City Schools serves students in three buildings in Portsmouth and Sciotoville.
