Dear Trojan Families Out of an abundance of caution coming back after our lengthy break, Portsmouth City Schools will require masks when students return to school on Wednesday, January 5. The mask mandate will be in effect through Friday, January 7 during school hours. Masks are strongly recommended at all other district events. We will provide an update for the week of January 10 as positive cases throughout the district become known. Thanks, PCSD

Good afternoon Trojan Families! "We were made aware a short while ago that our High school/Jr. High positive cases of COVID-19 are now above the 10 active cases threshold that we established for mandatory masking. Starting Wednesday December 15th we will require masks at the high school and junior high for the rest of this week. We will continue to monitor things at PHS/PJHS, PES, and EPE and make any other adjustments necessary these last few days before Christmas break." Sincerely, PCSD

Dear Trojan Families, Due to circumstances with the supply chain that is beyond the control of our food service department, our breakfast and lunch menus may need to change on a regular basis. We will still be providing healthy and nutritious meals to our students. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. As always, thank you for being flexible and understanding as we continue to work through issues caused by and related to COVID-19. Best Regards, PCSD

Dear Trojan Families: Portsmouth City Schools is returning to our original policy on masks that we had at the beginning of the school year and "Strongly Recommending" masks in our buildings and school grounds. We realize that the cold and flu season will soon be upon us adding to the COVID-19 concerns that we already face, which could require a mask mandate once again. We will continue to evaluate things as we move forward and update you as needed. Thanks, PCSD

Dear Trojan Families: Portsmouth City Schools will continue to mandate masks during school hours and other indoor activities for another week (Oct. 4th through Oct. 8th). It is our hope that the number of positive cases throughout our district and county will continue to decrease so that this mandate can be lifted after this week. We will continue to monitor and update you as things progress. We appreciate your understanding.

PHS/PJHS Remote Learning for the week of 9-13-21 to 9-17-21. While on remote learning, students will be expected to follow their normal time schedule. Attendance will be done much like we are in person, with the first-period teacher posting a Google Form asking the student if he/she is present. Students must log in to the form by 7:45 each morning to be counted present, and then they will follow their regular schedule. They will access their lessons through each teacher’s google classroom, and teachers will be in their classrooms ready to assist and available to answer any questions. Thank you for your flexibility and we look forward to seeing you in person again soon. This week we have been experiencing a large increase in the number of absences from students as well as staff. With much consideration, we have come up with the following plan of action: Next week, Monday, September 13th through Friday, September 17th the district will be 100% virtual/online learning. No students are to report to school, but will be required to complete work via Chromebooks/Google Classroom or what your students' teachers assign. This Friday, September 10th will be a waiver day for students. All staff will report on regular schedule. We will return to 100% in-person instruction on Monday, September 20th. When we return to in-person instruction, we will return to mandatory masks for students and staff from September 20th - 24th. We will reevaluate our mandatory mask situation on Friday, September 24th. Please check the district webpage and/or Facebook for updates. Thank you, again for your cooperation and understanding, Portsmouth City School District
